Step-by-Step Guide: How to Pay Your Tax Instalment Online
Previously, we introduced how to pay your personal income tax through online banking.
Today, we’ll show you how to pay your personal tax instalment using online banking — it’s safe, simple, and worry-free!
Example: Using BMO Mobile Banking

Log in to your online banking account.
At the bottom of the screen, click “Pay & Transfer”, then select “Pay a bill / Pay bills.”
2. After entering the “Choose your payee” page, click “Add a Payee.”
3. Click “Search for your payee.”
4. In the search bar, type “CRA Tax Instalment”, then select “CRA (Revenue) Tax Instalment.”
5. In the “Nickname” field, you may enter the taxpayer’s name.
In the “Account Number” field, enter the taxpayer’s SIN (Social Insurance Number).
Once completed, click “DONE” in the upper right corner.
6. Enter the amount you wish to pay, then follow your bank’s instructions to confirm and complete the payment.
These steps demonstrate how to complete the process using the BMO Mobile App.
Most Canadian banks also offer the option to pay taxes online.
Simply log in to your online banking account and follow these key steps:
1. Log in to your online banking account, select “Pay a bill / Pay bills”, then search for “CRA” under Payee, and choose “CRA Revenue Tax Instalment” as the payee.
2. Set the Account Number to your SIN (Social Insurance Number), and in the Nickname / Memo field, you may enter the taxpayer’s name as a reminder for yourself.
3. Follow the instructions on the payment page to enter the amount you wish to pay and complete the transaction.
Usually, any overpayment or underpayment made through tax instalments will be adjusted when you file your annual tax return.
